Welcome to Day 9 of Janet and Randy's Kauai Adventure 2014
Friday, November 14th, 2014
Had a lazy morning. Took our time getting up and having breakfast. Drove into Koloa and went to South Shore Bikinis, I had bought bikinis from this place before, and the owner recognized us right away. I tried on a bunch of suits and eventually found one I liked, so I bought it.
It was close to lunch time, so we went to the Koloa Fish Market to get some lunch. We got a poke bento and an Ahi plate lunch (ahi with two different sauces - wasabi cream and teriyaki). And of course, we got a coconut turnover (my favourite!) (Janet would have been severely disappointed if there wasn't a coconut turnover and I was actually quite proud of her for sharing it). We took the food down to Kukuiula harbour to eat our lunch by the ocean. The weather was warm and sunny, and the food was delicious. And the view is fantastic !
After lunch we went to a place called the Art House, it's a small shop close to the Bikini place, and we had been in the gallery in prior years. We had a good chat with the gallery owner. No purchases were made, but some of the pieces were giving me some ideas.
We went back to the room and had a little nap before heading down to cool off in the pool for a while. Around 2:30pm, we headed into Lihue to hit the Farmer's Market.
For supper we went to Puka Dog. We had hot dogs and lemonade. There was some bun leftover, so Randy went into the parking lot and fed some of the ever-present chickens. They even took a few pieces from my hand.
Friday is Art Night in Hanapepe, so we drove there to check it out. We hadn't been for a number of years, and it is a much bigger event than it used to be. It used to be just art galleries that were open late, but now there are a bunch of food trucks and people with tables selling various arts, crafts and jewelry. Not to mention a person playing a guitar, violin or ukulele on almost every block. It was also so busy, it was hard to find a parking spot in the downtown area. We wandered around for a while, then headed to the shops at Kukuiula.
We walked around the Kukuiula shops for a bit, and then Randy stubbed his little toe against a rock border. We think that the nail ripped back because it was bleeding. It hurt a lot and he had trouble walking. He soaked it in some water when we got back to the room, and that seemed to help. Hopefully he isn't going to be crippled for the rest of our vacation.
He was well enough to make up a fresh batch of guacamole, which was very good. So, we ate guacamole and watched Forrest Gump on TV. Guacamole and Gump... what an evening !
