Welcome to Day 14 of Janet and Randy's Kauai Adventure 2016

Birthday breakfast with JennIt's the big day for the birthday boy!  To prove that he is not (yet) crotchety, Randy went out for a run first thing in the morning - not a fast run, but I'll count it.  After Randy got back and showered up, we went over to Jenn's condo - where she made us some grilled mahi mahi, frittata, asparagus, brie and POG mimosas.  It was super yummy!!!

After enjoying the delicious breakfast and a few mimosas, we jumped in the car and headed to Costco to pick up some flower leis for the supper at the Beach House restaurant later tonight.  We dropped them off at the restaurant, and then came back to the room so that Randy could check on the many birthday greetings from his friends and have a FaceTime chat with his good friend Rob.

Randy had his choice of where to go for lunch.  As we were going to be having a fabulous meal for dinner, he didn't want too big of a lunch, so he decided to go to Puka Dog.  We both got a hot dog with mild garlic sauce, coconut relish and lilikoi mustard and some fresh squeezed lemonade.  It was pretty darn good! The Lilikoi mustard is to die for !

Then we went over to Sheraton Beach to splash around in the waves for a while.  We were there for about an hour when we saw some dark clouds coming.  So, we packed up our stuff and got out of there just as the rain started coming down.  We went back to the condo, showered up and waited for our friends to start arriving around 4:30pm for pre-dinner drinks.

Birthday BoyWhat had started out as a glorious sunny day turned into overcast and drizzly.  So, for the first time since we got here, there was no sunset to watch.  Which messed up our plans to get a nice sunset picture before the meal.  Oh well.  Just before 6:00pm, we headed over to the restaurant.  I thought that we might have been set up near one of the windows, but they actually had us in a back corner.  But, that probably worked out best, as we were kind of loud.  Funny what happens when you get a few drinks into our friends.

The table was set with leis draped over the back of each seat.  Everyone put on their leis and we sat down to begin the meal.  The waitress came by to start pouring wine.  I had selected Angeline Reserve Chardonnay as the white wine, and Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon for the red.  If anyone didn't like wine, they could order some other drink.  There were a few Mai Tais and other exotic concoctions ordered up.

Birthday supper at Beach House restaurantWe had pre-ordered a set menu.  The first course was crab cakes, which our friend Jenn pronounced the best she has ever eaten.  The second course was a watermelon arugula salad, which was also very tasty.  For the third course, there was a choice of filet mignon, roast chicken or macadamia crusted mahi mahi.  Both Randy and I got the mahi mahi - which was so delicious that I wanted to lick the plate (but I did manage to resist the urge - I very skillfully used my fork to basically mop up as much of the sauce as possible... so delish !).

We had ordered a birthday cake to have for dessert.  Jenn had picked up some candles that said "Lost Count", so the staff put those candles on the cake before bringing it out.  Teagan and Odin helped to blow out the candles, and then the staff took it away to cut up.  The cake was a white cake with a lilikoi filling - and was really yummy.  After cake, we sat around finishing our drinks for a while, then everyone (except Blaine, Lisa and the boys) decided to come back to our place for more drinks. Because one can't do too much celebrating !

We sat around drinking and visiting until 10:00pm, when most everyone left - except Harold and Lil, who stayed until 11:00pm.  After they left, we pretty much went straight to bed and crashed, as it was a long, but fun day.
