Welcome to Day 2 of Janet and Randy's Kauai Adventure 2016

View from room at Marriott WaileaEven though we were still tired, we both woke up at 6:00am and couldn't get back to sleep.  When we arrived at the Residence Inn Maui Wailea late last night, we had no idea what sort of view we had.  So, this morning it was a pleasant surprise to have a nice ocean view from our room.  We had just booked a studio with a king bed, and it was a nice spacious room with a sitting area and a small kitchen.  More than big enough for the 2 nights we were staying here.

Randy put on his running gear and went for a run, while I showered up and then started working on the journal for the previous day.  Randy had a shower when he got back, then we went downstairs for the breakfast that is included in the room rate here at the hotel.  The breakfast was a buffet with some scrambled eggs, sausages, cereals, breads and make-your-own waffles.  As we didn't get down there until after 8:00am, it was quite busy.  Unlike most of the hotels I stay at, that primarily cater for business travelers, this hotel has a ton of families so I'm not accustomed to have kids running around the kitchen area.

We had our breakfast overlooking the pool, then decided to gather up our beach gear and head out to Little Beach.  We arrived at around 8:45pm, and it was already starting to get warm.  We set up our blanket and towels and then slathered ourselves with the 'UB 50' sunscreen.  After lounging around for a bit - we decided to head into the water and cool off.

The water was nice and warm and we ended up spending most of the time splashing around in the waves.  As our skin was still lily white, we didn't want to spend too much time in the sun on our first day.  So, we left the beach at 10:30am and went back to our room to shower off.  We then headed into Kahului to have lunch at Da Kitchen.  We got there at around 11:30 - and there was already a group of people waiting for tables.  We put our name on the list and they said it would be about 15 minutes.  However, our table was ready about 5 minutes later. Which was great because by this time both of us were getting hungry.  Still on our home timezone.

Janet at Little BeachRandy ordered a Mixed Plate with teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, katsu and breaded mahi mahi.  I ordered the Korean chicken, and both were delicious.  When our food arrived (very shortly after ordering it), we both figured that there was no way we could eat it all.  But once we started eating, we realized we were quite hungry and ended up eating most of our plates.  It was really good, and it was difficult to stop shoving the food in my mouth.

After lunch, we went (and waddled) over to Macy's to look for clothes.  I managed to find some items on sale for a great price, so got myself a new dress and a few tops.  Randy didn't find anything that he was interested in.  We then went to the Mercedes dealership to get some licence plate frames (that said Maui Mercedes), and then we headed back to hotel for a nap as we were a little tired being out in the sun all day.  Randy managed to sleep a bit, but I couldn't.  So I spent some more time catching up on the journal.

After Randy woke up, we decided to head to the Shops of Wailea and check out the Tori Richard store (a favourite of Randy's).  We were quite surprised to see that the parking lot was now a pay parking lot for the shops.  You could park for an hour for free, though.  Randy ended up finding 2 new shirts, and I found a dress.  We ended up being at the mall for just over an hour - but since we had made a purchase, we were given a parking validation to extend our parking time (so we didn't have to pay anything). A very lame way of a cash grab.

After we were finished shopping, we decided to head out to grab some supper.  The Monkeypod Kitchen was a short walk away, so we decided to walk there from the hotel.  However, when we got there, it was a 30-40 minute wait to get in.  We didn't feel like waiting, and decided to check out another restaurant in the same complex - called Pita Paradise.  We had never eaten there before, so we thought we would check it out.  The menu had both Greek and Italian food.  I got some chicken kebobs and Randy got chicken parmesan.  Both were really tasty and hit the spot.  I also had a Lilikoi mojito, and Randy had a Kona Brewing Company Wailea Wheat beer.  Both were also yummy.

Then it was back to the hotel - where we checked in for our flight the next day, and then just hung out in the room for the rest of the night. And feel asleep very early.
