Welcome to Day 9 of Janet and Randy's Kauai Adventure 2016

Friday, October 21, 2016

Had a good sleep and woke up around 6:30pm.  Randy didn't feel like going for a run, so we had breakfast and just hung out in the room relaxing for a while.  We went into Lihue to check out the Kapaia Stitchery like we do every time we are here - as they have cool, local-made crafts.  They had some nice hand-stitched Hawaiian quilts there.  They aren't cheap, but a lot of time and effort go into these quilts.  We have been talking about buying a Hawaiian quilt for years now, but just haven't done it.  They are beautiful, but a person can only hand wash the quilts, and as I can't just leave it out in the sun to dry year-round, it would be a pain to clean the cat hair off as required.  There was one there that we liked, but we will have to give it some more thought.

Went and bought some more sunscreen, then headed to Kapaa to meet up with Blaine, Lisa and the kids for lunch at Monico's Taqueria.  Randy had his usual fish burrito (with Ahi this time), and I tried the chicken mole enchiladas.  Both were good (as usual).  We stopped into a nearby bakery to get some croissants for breakfast tomorrow, then said goodbye (for now) to Blaine and Lisa - the boys were running low on energy and it was apparent that they needed a nap before a meltdown occurred.  We headed south to Lihue and stopped at the Koloa Rum Company for a free tasting (Free !  who turns down free rum ?).  We were given samples of dark rum, spiced rum, coconut rum and a new coffee rum (which tasted like Kahlua - better than Kahlua).  All were very good, and we ended up buying the coconut rum and coffee rum - I know, what a huge surprise.

We went back to our room and promptly opened the coconut rum and had it with pineapple juice (which was very tasty).  We had a couple of drinks on the lanai, and then our friends Bernie and Barb came by to join us.

Once Bernie and Barb arrived, we had more drinks on the lanai as well as some chips, salsa and guacamole.  After a few more drinks, none of us were really fit to drive, so we walked over to the Kukui'ula shops and had supper at Merriman's Gourmet Pizza and Burgers.  I had  fish burger, and Randy had a teriyaki burger, and we both had some beer to go with it.  We had a fun visit with our friends, then walked back to our rooms.  After saying goodbye to our friends at the Kuhio Shores, we stopped into the Black Pearl gallery next to the Beach House restaurant.  I checked out some of the fabulous jewelry, while Randy looked at the artwork.  Didn't buy anything, but there were some nice, pretty baubles there.

Then it was back to our room where we pretty much went straight to bed.
