Welcome to Day 6 of Janet and Randy's Maui Adventure 2014

Thursday, June 12, 2014

The overnight temperatures actually dipped below 80 degrees (F), so we woke up to a condo that was pleasantly cool.  That was a nice change.  Randy went out for a longer run today, and then we had breakfast.  I'm not sure what we were doing, but before we knew it - it was 10:00am - so we grabbed our stuff and headed to the beach.

Having supper at the Monkeypod KitchenFor the first time this week, it was actually sunny when we got to Little Beach.  The colours in the water looked incredible.  The waves were a little smaller today - so a person could go in without getting pummeled.  It was sunny for a while, and because it was quite warm, we spent some time playing in the waves.  The clouds came in, so we just went back to our towels and relaxed.

It was very comfortable with the cloudy sky.  But around 11:30am, the clouds disappeared, the wind died down, and all of a sudden it was HOT.  We braved it out for about another half hour when I said I had enough.  I was pretty much melting.  So, we headed back across the hot sand to our car.  We drove back to the condo.  However, the nice cool unit we left only two hours ago was now an oven.  We fled into our air conditioned bedroom and cooled off with a shower.  We headed out to get some lunch.  We ended up at Maui Tacos.  We just shared a Hawaiian pork Maui Mex Bowl.  It was more than enough for the two of us - especially since it was so hot out.  On our way over to get lunch, the car thermometer said that it was 95 degrees out.  Hoo doggie that was warm.  It was so hot that we had to put the roof on the convertible and turn on the air conditioning.

After lunch we decided to drive to Paia for something to do.  Luckily, as we were driving over to Paia, the temperature slowly dropped down to 84 degrees.  So, it was much more comfortable when we got out of the car in Paia.  Plus there was a nice breeze - so we were able to wander around the various shops without getting heat stroke.  Around 4:30pm, we headed back to our condo in Wailea.  Fortunately the temperature had dropped there as well, and it was a manageable 85 degrees.  I'm not complaining about the warmth.  I love it.

Key Lime and Coconut Cream pieOur condo was still warm, so we changed our clothes and went out for supper to the Monkeypod Kitchen.  We were given a table on the patio with a view of the ocean.  Very nice.  I ordered the fish tacos and Randy had fish and chips.  Both meals were delicious, but we didn't have any dessert as we had some pies back at the condo.

After supper we went to The Shops of Wailea to wander around a bit.  I ended up buying a dress and Randy bought another Hawaiian shirt.  Then we went back to the condo and opened up all the windows to try to cool things off.  It slowly cooled down.  We also helped to cool ourselves down by having some vodka and guava juice (Happy Hour is still on).

Later on, we had some pie for dessert.  A couple days ago, we had bought some pies from the Sugar Beach Bake Shop.  We got one key lime pie and one coconut cream pie.  We had planned to have them when Randy made the grilled mahi mahi - but we were both too full to have any that night.  So, we finally got around to trying them out.  They were very good (my favourite was the coconut cream).  But now my stomach hurts from eating too much.  Oh well - it was worth it!  Definitely go back there and try some of their other goods.  Some folks were saying the Stickie buns (ie: Cinnamon buns) were very good !
