Day 6 - Sevilla (Thursday Sept 12)

Today was our first morning that we actually 'slept in'.  We didn't wake up until 9:00am, which is late for us.  Since breakfast at the hotel is only served until 10:30am, we got ready and headed down.

The breakfast buffet at this hotel wasn't as nice as the one in Madrid.  But then again, maybe we were getting the 'dregs' of the food since it was after 10:00am when we arrived.  After breakfast, we decided to head down to the central part of the city.  We found out that we could take a bus there, so we went to the bus stop and caught a bus.Janet at the Sevilla Bull Ring

We got off at the Plaza del Toros.  This bullring was built in the 1700's.  We took a tour of the bullring, which was quite interesting.  After the tour of the bullring, we walked down to the Cathedral.  This is an immense church and quite amazing.  It took us over an hour to tour through the place, and we didn't really spend a lot of time at any one place.

The Cathederal at Sevilla

It was after 1:30pm, and we were getting hungry, so we went to a cafe across the street from the Cathedral.  This was one place that actually had really large portions of food (not that we needed the big portions).

After lunch, we decided to tour the Alcazar, which was right next to the Cathedral.  This old Muslim palace was quite interesting.  It had some really gorgeous gardens.  However, since it was so hot out (32 degrees), we didn't spend a lot of time there.  We had toured 3 places in one day, and we had seen enough.

We started to head back to the bus stop, and came across an internet cafe.  So, we stopped to check our mail.  It was also nice and air-conditioned, so we could cool off a bit.

We caught a bus back to the hotel.  By the time we got back, we were quite hot, so we changed into our suits and headed up to the pool to cool off.  We stayed up at the pool until about 7:00pm.

At about 8:00pm, we decided to try finding a restaurant that opens before 10:00pm.  This time, we walked in an opposite direction and had more luck.  We decided to just stop for some pizza, so we thought we would try TelePizza.  We got a medium Hawaiian pizza and 2 drinks for 10 Euros.

After supper, we stopped in at a gas station and got some pop and chips.  Right after that, we came across a grocery store.  Oh well, this is something we can keep in mind for the future.

We also found out that the rowing teams we saw at our hotel are part of the World Rowing championships.  The event doesn't start until the day after we leave Sevilla, though.

D'oh!
