Yellowknife 2013

My Mom and I decided to fly up to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories for a quick weekend getaway.  We stayed at the Explorer Hotel, and were able to walk to pretty much all the places we wanted to see (until my Mom got a little tired of walking, and we called a taxi to get back to the hotel).  I didn’t do a travel journal for this short trip, but you can click HERE to see some of the photos.

On the Saturday, we wandered around the downtown area, the Old Town and saw great views from the Bush Pilot Monument.  We stopped for lunch at the Dancing Moose Cafe, where we both had their poutine made with buffalo meat.  It was very tasty.  After all the walking during the day, we decided to just have dinner at the Explorer Hotel, where I had elk striploin and mom had prime rib.

The next day we had brunch at the hotel, then wandered across the road to the nearby Yellowknife Visitor’s Centre, the Prince of Wales Museum, and  the Northwest Territories Legislature Building.  The Legislature isn’t normally open on Sundays to tours, but a security guard was kind enough to let us in and wander around.  After that, we went back to the hotel to catch the shuttle to the airport.  A quick in and out trip, but a lot of fun.
