Day 6 - Kauai

February 22, 2006

For a change, we didn't wake up to rain.  It was actually bright and sunny out.  Randy got up at 7:30 and went for a run.  I stayed in bed and slept.  We had breakfast out on the lanai, then since it was so nice out, we decided to head to the beach.

Hanging out on Sheraton BeachBlaine and Lisa went off to rent some snorkel gear, while Randy and I headed to the beach next to the Sheraton.  We told Blaine and Lisa to meet us there.  Randy and I hung out at the beach, enjoying the sunshine.  However, after over an hour had passed, we were wondering if Blaine and Lisa had gone to the wrong beach - because they hadn't shown up yet.  So, Randy decided to walk over to Poipu Beach and see if they went there instead.  He found them there - they thought we had said to meet them at the beach near the Marriott instead of the Sheraton.  They walked back with Randy and hung out with us.  The waves were really good for body surfing, so Randy and I played around in the waves quite a bit.  Only problem with body surfing is that you usually end up pasted with sand.  And its everywhere !  You can usually get most of it out/off in the shower, which is funny if you look down at the bottom of the shower and see small piles of sand.

Just before 2:00pm, we figured that we should get out of the sun and get some lunch.  We went to the Koloa Fish market, grabbed some food - then went to the harbor to eat our lunch.  We had a Hawaiian combo (with pork kailua), some seared ahi and some salad rolls.  Yum.  (mmmm plate lunch)

Janet & Randy at Gaylord's RestaurantAfter lunch, we went back to the condo to give some snorkel lessons to Blaine and Lisa.  We started out in the resort pool, just learning the basics.  Then we headed across the road to try it out in the ocean.  The water was much murkier than usual, but there were a ton of fish right as you just got in the water.  It was probably all riled up from the rain the day before.

After snorkeling, we showered up and dressed up a bit.  We headed to Gaylord's restaurant for supper.  Randy, Lisa and I ordered the Chicken Kauai (or as Lisa called it - Maui Chicken).  Blaine had the seafood pasta.  The food was excellent, as per usual.  We were too full to even order dessert. (shocking, but true!)  Mark this one in your calendar, quite the event, being too full for dessert!

Came back to the condo, watched some TV, updated the journal - then went to bed.  All that sun and surf tires a person out!
