Kauai - Day 2 - Sunday, December 1, 2013

Aloha and Welcome to our vacation.

Last night there was a huge thunderstorm.  Wind, rain and lots of lightning.  There was one huge crack of lightning that woke us up at 3:00am.  So, didn't have the best of sleeps.  We woke up to grey skies, but at least it wasn't raining.

Got up around 8:00am and a short time later we got a message from our friends Blaine and Lisa.  They had arrived the night before (around midnight) and wanted to meet up.  They were staying only 5 doors down, so we made up some coffee, cut up some coconut cake and took it over to their unit.  We ended up having breakfast with them on the lanai and hung out with them and their kids for a while before we came back our place to shower up.

There was a Christmas craft fair at the nearby Allerton Garden, so we headed over there to check it out.  Since it had poured some much the night before, the grounds that the craft fair was set on was a little mucky in places.  They had live music and dancers and a number of different vendors.  We came across someone selling fruits and vegetables, so we got an avocado and some rambutan.  We wandered around the rest of the vendors, and then headed back to our car.  On the way back, we ran into Randy's parents and his aunt and uncle.  Chatted with them for a bit, then went back to our condo to drop the food off.

We were starting to get a little hungry by this time, so we decided to head to Monico's Taqueria for some lunch.  We texted Blaine & Lisa to see if they wanted to join us, and they agreed to meet us there.  The fish of the day was ahi - so Randy got an ahi fish burrito and I got ahi fish tostados.  The food was as good as I remember it, and it really hit the spot. So Yummy !

After lunch, we headed to Safeway to get a few groceries, then went back to our resort.  We were a little tired, so lay down for a nap.  Randy got up and made some of his famous guacamole while I snoozed a little longer.  Then we took the guacamole and chips over to Randy's parents to watch the sunset.  Blaine and Lisa joined us later - along with their friends Patricia and Neal.

We hung around having drinks and eating the guacamole for a while, then decided to go out for supper.  We went to Merriman's Gourmet Pizza and Burgers in the nearby Kukuilua shops.  We were able to walk right in and get a table for 8 people.  Randy and I shared a Kalua Pork and Grilled Pineapple pizza and some Cilantro Garlic Fries.  We also tried the lilikoi mojito - which was very tasty.

After supper, we wandered around the shops for a bit - then went back to our condo and relaxed for the rest of the evening.
